Observations:
March 2013 – Markstrom has stopped 111 of the past 114 shots that he’s faced during a three-game stretch that saw him and the Panthers go 2-1. He will continue to be the Panthers go to guy, as the Panthers seem intent on letting him work on his game with them sitting in dead last in the East. Fantasy owners can finally start to reap the rewards of owning such a stud, though the win column will likely remain rather empty. Nathan Kanter
March 2013 - Jose Theodore sustained an injury in early March that has taken him out for the better part of the season. This is the time for Markstrom to make his mark. But after a great first game, he struggled in his next three - including once occasion in which he allowed goals on the first two shots and was promptly yanked. He has done all he can at the AHL level and has a young team in front of him. His status as a prospect is such that the Panthers may roll with him through good times and bad, and let him work the kinks out of his game and just deal with the growing pains. - Dobber
August 2012 – Size, potential, competitiveness and talent, all the attributes you want to be large on a goalie, Markstrom supplies them all. He also has a larger than life personality which is on display quite often and will make him a crowd pleaser and fun commercial tool for the NHL, much like Ovechkin. Has shown the ability to be dominant in Sweden and internationally, in his transition to North America he has just shown strengths, but is yet to take his game to the elite level. He is also very quick and intimidating in the cease, when shooters cannot see net, they refrain from shooting for corners and just try and put pucks on target for rebounds. Florida’s management has stated in May they wish to hold Markstrom back for one more season in the AHL with the intent of him playing a full, healthy season with 50-60 starts. Do not let this discourage you from acquiring him anyway you can in keeper league formats. Markstrom’s job this year is simple, make management reconsider. He will come into camp, hopefully 10-20 pounds more developed physically, push Theodore and Clemmensen, and then control games early in San Antonio.
Fantasy Outlook: A+
Has elite potential and should be a top five fantasy goalie to own at around the age of 25. Save percentage, wins and shutouts should be plus catigories with goals against average depending on quality of defense in front of him.
Footage: Markstrom shows his talents beyond stopping pucks.
