Soderberg

Carl Söderberg, C

Shoots: C

Height: 6-3

Weight: 205

Born: 1985-10-12

Hometown: Malmö, Sweden

Drafted: 2004 by St. Louis, 49th overall

Observations:

April 2013 - The contract is apparently for three years, per Kirk Luedke, Boston beat writer. Still needs to secure release from Sweden. But at his age (27) he should get looks in the Bruins lineup immediately. - Dobber

March, 2013 - After finishing second in Elitserian scoring with 60 points in 54 games, Soderberg has finally decided to come to try his hand at the NHL. TSN reports that the 28-year-old will join the team as soon as the SEL playoffs are over. He will not have to clear waivers as the Bruins had him on their reserve list - just in case. - Dobber

July 2012 - Ever since being drafted in the second round by St. Louis back in 2004, Söderberg has been a top player in both the Swedish Elite League and Sweden’s second division, the Allsvenskan. Söderberg is a big, skilled, creative center who is competent in his own zone. In 368 games between Sweden’s top two professional leagues, Söderberg has scored 112 goals and has added 210 assists for a total of 322 points. Söderberg’s rights are currently held by the Boston Bruins, however he has previously made it public that he only intends to play in the NHL if he was signed to a one-way contract. - Evan Hotham

Fantasy Outlook: B-

Based on offensive ability alone, Söderberg’s fantasy upside is bright, however it has been eight years since he has been drafted and the chances he ever comes over to North America are very slim. If he ever did come over, you would have a player who is most likely ready to contribute to an NHL team right away. Update - outlook improves dramatically based on the latest news in early March, 2013.
