Observations:

February 2014 - Schmaltz has already eclipsed his point total from a year ago after just 23 games. At this point he is developing as expected and could be a decent point-producing fantasy option in a few years. Eric Daoust

June 2013 – Schmaltz played his first season at the University of North Dakota. He finished with 12 points in 42 games, good for fifth among team blueliners. The numbers are not outstanding but it is not uncommon for defensemen to develop at a slower pace. He is still extremely talented and possesses all of the tools to become a quality pro but is at least a couple years away from being NHL-ready. Brendan Ross

June 2012 – Schmaltz, drafted 25th overall by St. Louis, owns the offensive skill set to become a top pairing powerplay defenseman. He handles the puck with confidence and can find his teammates with lightning quick passing. Schmaltz has a hard accurate shot that finds the net with good accuracy. Brendan Ross

Fantasy Outlook:   A-

Schmaltz’ offensive upside is among the best of this draft class as he has very good offensive upside, in terms of fantasy value.
