Observations:

May 2013 – Ferriero spent the remainder of the year playing for Connecticut of the AHL where he posted 12 points in 23 games. At the age of 26 he has still not caught on full-time in the NHL and time is running out. At this point he cannot be seen as more than an injury call-up. Eric Daoust

January 2013 – The Rangers decided they needed more NHL depth to allow their younger prospects to develop in the AHL so they acquired Ferriero for Chad Kolarik. He has produced 19 points in 35 games in the AHL this season which is lower than his previous rates, but his role has changed to more veteran presence than a developing player. He will likely continue to hold station on the bottom line and post limited production. Jason Banks

July 2012 – Ferriero has signed with Pittsburg to play a depth role as expected. His deal has an AHL clause and that is likely where he spends most of his season. Jason Banks

July 2012 – Ferriero was unable to keep his job with San Jose, as they chose not to tender him a qualifying offer. With the strength he has shown at the AHL level it is likely another team takes a chance in him as a depth option at the NHL level, or utilize him as a scoring option for their farm team in hopes to grow prospects around him. Jason Banks

May 2012 – Benn Ferriero is a hardworking forward who has had a lot of success scoring in the minor leagues – 103 points in 121 career AHL games.  Unfortunately, that has not translated to the NHL yet as he has produced just 22 points in 92 NHL games played over three seasons in San Jose.  Ferriero’s track record in minor pro and at Boston College indicates that there is some upside here.  But at 25 years of age and with an expiring contract this summer, there is no telling what the future holds.  There is a good chance that he settles into a role on an energy line, but there is also risk of Ferriero becoming a career AHLer. Eric Daoust

Fantasy Outlook: D+

There is some upside that has not yet translated at the NHL level.  Most likely a career AHLer or future depth player.
