Observations:

January 2014 - Hartikainen was traded to the Leafs on Jan.31 along with Cam Abney for defenseman Mark Fraser. The Leafs are fairly deep on the wing when it comes to Hartikainen's skill set, which is potentially in that second- to third-line winger range, however his versatility, hard work and physical play should see him on this team when his KHL contract is up after the 2014-15 season. He has 27 points in 43 KHL games, good for fourth among his team's forwards. Dobber

June 2013 – After an excellent AHL campaign and moonlighting in the NHL for 23 games, he signed a two year KHL contract. The Oilers will still hold his rights as he is a RFA, but the current outlook is poor, unless he has an NHL out clause and Edmonton management steps up. Jason Banks

March 2013 - Hartikainen is not playing with the aggressiveness that he showed a year ago...Still weak in his own zone and his minus-7 as of mid-March is enough to scare away poolies who are drawn to his hits... Potentially a 150-Hit player, but needs to earn the ice time (right now hovers around 10 minutes). Dobber

April 2012 – Hartikainen plays that gritty and physical style and has the size to go along with it. He battles all over the ice and plays a variety of roles and has been compared to the likes of Tomas Holmstrom. Oddly enough (for being European) his skating is a little poor, although over the last two North American seasons he has made great strides. Hartikainen has the potential to play a top-six forward role with power-play time, but for now he will be an energy guy with a physical presence. Russ Bitely

Fantasy Outlook: C+

Hartikainen is a power forward with leadership qualities who will need to improve his skating to ever make an NHL impact.
