Observations:

October 2013 - As predicted, Nieto made the roster and has stuck around in a 3rd line role and has done quite admirably.  His speed has really helped him with the transition from college hockey to the premier level of hockey in the NHL.  He's producing at a .500 point-per-game pace, which is quite impressive for being on the third or fourth lines most games.  Think of him like a younger version of Pavelski.  Tim Graveline

September 2013 - Matt Nieto had a strong showing at the prospects tournament, which saw him play against the likes of the Flames, Vancouver, Jets top prospects.  He wore the C for the Sharks for at least  the last game against the Flames prospects and played a strong game.  He did receive praise from Sharks bench boss Todd McLellan after the tournament.  Nieto is on the good side of the Sharks brass and will at least see some time with the Sharks as a injury call-up, but could find a way to force himself into the season opener lineup if he continues to impress, but the odds are against him.  Tim Graveline

April, 2013 - Matt Nieto signs an entry-level contract with the San Jose Sharks. He has a shot at making the roster next season, and may get a call up before playoffs if trades make it necessary. Tim Graveline

March 2013 -- Nieto is having a very solid junior season with Boston University. He’s been on a tear of late and is building his accolades with his scoring prowess. His game is so even-keeled that he has the same amount of goals and assist at this moment. If he opts out of his senior year, he’s got a very good chance of making the Sharks roster next season or perhaps even a shot at the playoffs in a little over a month. --Tim Graveline

February, 2012 – Followed up a good freshman season (23 points in 39 games) with an outstanding sophomore campaign (42 points in 39 games).  An excellent stickhandler and swift skater, Nieto needs to improve his shot to have a complete offensive arsenal.

Fantasy Outlook: B

Needs another year to get stronger, but projects as a top-six forward with the skill to get power-play time.
