Observations:
January 2013 – Struggled to turn pro this season in limited action with the Heat and showed little life in games outside a late game misconduct penalty in a 5-0 loss to the Toronto Marlies mid-November. He has recently been reassigned to his junior team in Brandon. Jason Banks March 2012 – After an average post-draft season, Michael Ferland has taken his game to new heights. He was in contention for a spot on Canada’s World Junior team and has proven to be one of the WHL’s most lethal scorers. In 68 games he put up 47 goals and 49 assists, for 96 total points. He was also honored by being named a WHL Second Team Allstar. He is a big strong winger that knows how to get the puck into the net. He also has the frame and physicality to make a difference defensively. Ferland should be a lock to play in the AHL next year.
Some offensive upside. Mainly projects to be a third-line role player.
Footage: Nice shootout goal by Ferland:
