Ryan Russell, C

Shoots: L

Height: 5-10

Weight: 180

Born: 1987-5-2

Hometown: Red Deer, Alb.

Drafted: 2005 7th round 211th overall – New York Rangers

April 2014 – Russell has had a rough 2013-2014 season. After being placed on waiver in July of 2013, he signed with Leksands IF of the Swedish Hockey League – the top-tier league in Sweden. In 51 games with the team, Russell has only been able to muster eight points (two goals and six assists). Leksands (ranked 7th) was eliminated by HV71 (the 10th seed) in a best-of-three series to qualify for the playoffs. Chris Bagwell

March 2013 - Russell understands that his only road to the NHL lies in his defensive game, so he has transformed himself into being that kind of player. - Dobber

March 2012 – Russell has the offensive skills with strong passing and vision for the game. Yet like his brother Kris, his small size will be a definite obstacle to overcome along with his physical play. He is an excellent skater who can also bury the puck in the back of the net. After five years developing his game in the AHL, he is now getting his shot with the big club this season in Columbus. - Russ Bitely

Fantasy Outlook: D-

It’s going to be a long road back to the NHL for Russell. He had a kick at the can two years ago, but struggled to put up any points (two in 42 games). With the depth of the current prospect pool for Columbus, it is unlikely Russell makes it back to the big show.

Ryan Russell scores his first career NHL goal on 1/13/2012.
