Observations:
April 2013 - Scheifele is doing exactly what the Winnipeg Jets hoped he would do when they reassigned him to his OHL club - dominate the opposition and lead his Barrie Colts to the OHL Championship. Coming off a five point effort (2G 3A) May 6th, Scheifele has his team ahead itwo games to one in the championship series over a powerful London Knights squad. He currently leads all players in scoring with an impressive 11 goals, 23 assists for 34 points in 18 playoff games to date. Scheifele will be ready to jump into the Winnipeg Jets top six next fall and contribute right away. Brendan Ross
March 2013 - Mark Scheifele was named OHL Player of the Week (ending March 9th) after netting six goals and nine points in three weekly games. The return of Scheifele to the Barrie Colts has certainly boosted the OHL franchise as he is clipping along at 1.79 points-per-game this season and has tallied 74 games to date in only 43 contests. Brendan Ross February 2013 – Scheifele failed to stick with Winnipeg for the second straight season (beyond the cup of coffee) but this does not hurt his overall outlook, just frustrates ‘poolies’ that have used high draft picks on him. Since returning to the Barrie Colts, Scheifele has compiled 12 points (seven goals) in four games, six of which came in his last contest vs. the Ottawa 67’s. You might be able to buy him low from an impatient owner and be rewarded with a solid, core center in a couple years. Jason Banks
December 2012 - Mark Scheifele was one of 21 forwards invited to take part in Canada's National Junior Selection camp for the 2013 World Junior Championships in Ufa, Russia. Scheifele was dominant in the Subway Super Series and could very well be Canada's most valuable player for the upcoming WJC with his ability to put pucks in the net, defend his zone and win key faceoffs (although he will likely be moved to the wing for the tournament). Brendan Ross
August 2012 - Quoted from Report Cards of Canada-Russia Challenge Article: Scheifele looks bigger, stronger and played with great confidence in this exhibition series. His finesse game was noticeable as his puck handling skills were immediately on display, feeding teammates with saucy passes and executing plays at top speed. In addition, Scheifele’s power game was evident as he used his frame to box out opponents, creating space and then driving hard to the net. His intensity was a bonus as well. Brendan Ross February 2012 – Mark Scheifele came close to making the NHL after a great pre-season, but was returned for a second season with the Barrie Colts after seven games with the Jets. Scheifele is dominating at the junior level, and would be among the OHL points leaders had he not played for Canada at the World Juniors. Scheifele is proving to be a very solid pick for the Jets and will likely make the jump to the NHL next season with another strong training camp. Thomas Wall
Scheifele will be given every chance to succeed as Winnipeg’s second-line centerman next season with significant time on the powerplay.
