Observations:
May 2013 – After a slow winter, McKegg’s season has really exploded since March. In his past 24 regular season appearances he has popped 14 points on the board (12 assists) and has really created a buzz on the ice with 33 shots. He has struck the scoreboard in both playoff games so far and has three points so far. His outlook for next season and beyond looks strong. Jason Banks
December 2012 – McKegg has had a slow adjustment from junior but is showing a really promising raw ability. He has used his frame rather effectively in creating scoring opportunities for his line-mates and at times shows he has professional offensive skills. McKegg will need a consistent top-six role to flourish and that opportunity should happen next season. Jason Banks
May, 2012 - McKegg was traded to the Knights in January. On his new team with improved linemates, he exploded for 41 points in 30 games. He faltered in the playoffs, which is a little distressing. Will need seasoning for sure. - Dobber
January, 2012 – The former 2nd overall pick of the 2008 OHL Priority Draft, Greg McKegg was a highly touted prospect entering a draft with other players such as Tyler Seguin, Jeff Skinner, Cam Fowler, Erik Gudbranson and Ryan Spooner. McKegg has shown to become a very effective junior hockey player scoring at a point-per-game pace. The Toronto Maple Leafs received good value in McKegg with their third round selection. McKegg projects to become a solid second or third line centre with good offensive skills and an even better work ethic. The St. Thomas native has good character and shows up for every game often being the most noticeable player on the ice. Toronto would be thrilled if McKegg could develop into a responsible centre with the ability to chip in 55-65 points in his prime.
Fantasy Outlook: B+ McKegg is a complementary forward with good upside who should be able to contribute in multicat leagues. Toronto is showing more patience with their recent prospects so I would expect a minimum two year wait on Greg McKegg.
