Observations: April 2012 – Pysyk has had a solid year and the fun is only beginning. His Edmonton Oil Kings re currently on a 19 game win streak and are looking unbeatable in playoffs. This added experience under the pressures of playoff hockey will good for Pysyk’s long term development. He is looking like a good prospect, but will have to improve his foot speed to be as effective in the professional ranks. Expect him to join the Sabres AHL affiliate in Rochester next season. – Zenon Herasymiuk
December, 2011 – Edmonton-area native Mark Pysyk hasn’t had to travel very far in his career. In fact, the Edmonton Oil Kings captain didn’t even have to change dressing rooms in order to put on the red and white for Team Canada at the World Juniors. But the Buffalo Sabres hope that changes- quickly. A smooth-skating defensive stud who leverages his speed and intelligence to shut down plays, Pysyk has always matched up against the best and toughest in his age group. Not quite ready for NHL duty this past fall, the 20-year-old should be a steadying influence on the Buffalo defensive core for years to come.
Fantasy Outlook: C+ Could turn out to be strictly a shutdown guy, given the current pipeline of offensive rearguards in the system.
