Observations:

March 2014 - McCoshen has zero points in his last seven games, bringing his season total to just 12 in 32 games. Yes he is still a freshman, but after starting with nine points in his first 16 games it's safe to say he has had a bit of a drop off in production. The Eagles are still a very good team at 26-7-4, so McCoshen is still a very good plus-23. Boston College has been named the number 1 seed from the North East division for the upcoming NCAA 16 team tournament that leads to the Frozen Four. McCoshen is still a ways away from the NHL but he can learn a lot if the Eagles make some noise in the Frozen Four. Nathan Kanter

January 2014 - McCoshen went pointless in five games for the Americans. He was paired with offensive blueliner Matt Grzelcyk, and though McCoshen usually enjoys to push the pace, he let his D-partner do that while he sat back much of the time. In the quarter-final against Russia, McCoshen was taken out of the top-six midway through the game and Grzelcyk ended up finishing the game minus-2. McCoshen will be glad to have a more prominent role back with the Boston College Eagles, who are currently 13-4-2. Nathan Kanter

December 2013 - Ian McCoshen is one of seven defensemen selected to the American Under-20 World Junior roster for the upcoming Championships in Malmo, Sweden. His strong start to the year has a lot to do with his place on the team as this is his first international experience. At 18 years old, he is unlikely to eat up huge minutes but should still see decent ice-time and was paired in exhibition with alternate captain Matt Grzelcyk (Bos, 2012). Nathan Kanter

December 2013 - McCoshen's strong play has continued this season for BC and USA Hockey took notice as they selected McCoshen to their Preliminary World Junior Roster. He currently has nine points in 16 games for the Eagles to go along with a team-leading plus-18 rating. He is also second on the team with 27 blocked shots. Nathan Kanter

November 2013 - McCoshen has six points in his first 11 games at Boston College. This is a good sign for the freshman defenseman, who is also a plus-12. Clearly, the team is doing very well. Nathan Kanter

July 2013 - McCoshen was taken by the Panthers with their second pick of the 2013 entry draft, 31st overall. He easily could have gone in the latter half of the first round so the Panthers were more than happy to snag the two-way defender, who has committed to Boston College for next season. Last year's first round pick, Mike Matheson -also a defender who was taken just eight spots before McCoshen was this year- just finished his freshmen season at B.C. so the two will be playing together for the Eagles this fall. McCoshen and Matheson are also both products of the USHL and both attended Panthers prospect camp July 8-12. Nathan Kanter

April 2013- Ian McCoshen is a big, mobile, defenseman and is an excellent skater with some offensive upside. He has an incredibly smooth stride. The most notable aspect of McCoshen’s game is his ability to make excellent passes out of the zone and eat up minutes in every situation. McCoshen is sound in front of the net and rarely lets a guy dominate anywhere near the crease. McCoshen also has great defensive hockey sense and can read plays as or before they happen, allowing for some excellent opportunities up ice and great defensive zone coverage. Andrew Ward

December 2012 – The Waterloo Black Hawk (USHL) defenseman fooled people a bit when he committed to Boston College last month. Originally set to attend other NCAA schools, he will attend BC next fall. McCoshen is a plays tough physically and holds a decent pair of mitts showing that he can make passes and get quality shots on net. He will block shots, disturb opponents along the wall and kill penalties effectively. Russ Bitely

Fantasy Outlook: C+

McCoshen is committed to Boston College and will spend a few years there but will likely enter the NHL as a top four defensemen.
