Observations:

October 2013 – Mayfield starts his journey as a pro with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the AHL as he was part of 15 players sent down bby the Islanders as the NHL regular season approaches. Mayfield finished with four goals, 17 points and 112 penalty minutes in 39 games with the University of Denver in 2012-13. He earned a six game trial with Bridgeport to end the season and looks forward to a full professional season in 2013-14.  Brad Wilson

April 2013 – After starting his second season in Youngstown, Mayfield was invited to the World Junior-A Challenge where he would receive Tournament MVP honors. In 2011-12 Mayfield was on the first defensive line for the University of Denver as a freshman. In 42-games Mayfield was a plus-five with a team high 76 penalty minutes for the Pioneers. Mayfield is a strong skater, has great size and possesses a natural feel for the game that simply cannot be taught.  On April 5, 2013, Mayfield agreed to terms on a three-year entry-level contract with the Islanders. Fantasy Outlook: C+

Mayfield has shown some real promise during his years at the University of Denver and has played his way into a contract with the Islanders. Mayfield will likely spend some time in Bridgeport playing for the Sound Tigers before cracking the main roster in New York.
