July 2014- Ouellet had a great training camp last season which helped him earn high praise from Red Wings coach Mike Babcock and their General Manager Ken Holland. His impression lef to being the one of the first defenceman called up to Detroit when they were in need and ended up seeing action in five NHL games with one of those games being a playoff appearance against the Bruins. Ouellet spent the majority of his rookie season in the AHL with Detroit's affiliate in Grand Rapids where he skating in 70 regular season and eight playoff games recording 4G-13A-17P, 26 PIM and a plus- 3 rating. Not bad for a professional debut. However, it was evident as the season wore on that he hit the rookie wall and wasn't having the same impact game-in and game-out that he was in the first couple of months. He still proved that he is a very valuable two-way defender with great skating ability that allows him to play in any situation. He is a very valuable piece in the system and it's an organization that needs some retooling at the NHL level in the very near future. Look for Ouellet as well as fellow second year stud Ryan Sproul to make a big leap this season. Travis Watson

October 2013- Xavier Ouellet made his NHL debut on October 21st against the San Jose Sharks and he didn't look one bit out of place. What impressed me the most was that Babcock was putting Ouellet out in more, and more, pressure situations as the game went on. Considering the Wings were without their top pair of defensemen against one of the league’s highest scoring and hottest teams to start the year, it was impressive that the Red Wings limited them to under 30 shots and no goals. I think it is safe to say that we haven't seen the last of Ouellet wearing the winged wheel this season. Ouellet showed good physicality in his debut, laying a big hit on Sharks’ Andrew Desjardins in the third period of action. June 2013- Ouellet endured a bit of a roller coaster season. After getting off to a strong start and finding himself manning the backline for Team Canada at the World Junior Championship Ouellet seemed to cool off once he returned back to the mainland from UFA, Russia before turning it back on in the playoffs. Xavier posted almost a point a game with 25 Points in 26 games before the World Juniors but then seemed to cool off a bit registering only 17 points in 24 games to end out the regular season. The Blainville-Broisbriand captain picked his game up when it mattered most leading the Armada attack from the backend with seven goals and nine assists for 16 points, just over a point-per-game pushing the Armada into the QMJHL Semi-Final where they were ousted by Baie-Comeau. Based on the numbers you would think that Ouellet’s game is all about his offense but he is a steadying presence on the defensive end as well. Travis Watson

February 2013 - Ouellet has maintained  a strong level of play this year with eight goals and 34 points in 38 games for Blainville-Boisbriand. Eric Daoust

December, 2012- Ouelett was named to the final Team Canada roster. A strong camp has thrust Ouelett into the top six for the tournament in Ufa. Rich Dillon

December 2012 - Ouellet was one of 12 defensemen invited to take part in Canada's National Junior Selection camp for the 2013 World Junior Championships in Ufa, Russia. By no means is Xavier Ouellet a lock to make the Canadian roster but his strong showing during the Subway Super Series and during the Canada-Russia Challenge certainly boosts his case. Brendan Ross

November 2012 - Xavier Ouellet was brilliant for Team QMJHL in the 2012 SUBWAY Super Series earning Player of the Game honours in game 1 scoring one goal and an assist in the loss.  Ouellet looked really comfortable running the powerplay and moving the puck up the ice.  His potential as a top-four defenseman remains strong as he possesses admirable solid two-way qualities. Ouellet added an assist in Game 2 to finish the Super Series with one goal and three points.  Brendan Ross

July 2012 - Ouellet signed a three-year entry level contract with Detroit back in March. Eric Daoust

March, 2012 – One of the most underrated defenseman from the 2011 draft class, Ouellet has excelled in a leadership role with Blainville-Boisbriand this year. He has set new career highs in almost every statistical category and helped his young team surprise some people this year. He has a terrific first pass and rushes the puck with ease. He has a fluid skating stride and is becoming one of the best defenseman in the league. Detroit has a reputation of developing prospects very slowly and will most likely return him to the QMJHL next year.  Derek LeBlanc

Fantasy Outlook: C

Modest upside. Detroit does not rush their prospects so don’t expect to see him for a while.
