Observations:

September 2014 - Bennett missed the third period of the final Young Stars game against the Canucks after sustaining a groin injury. Although the Flames hopeful did not return it seems it was more a precaution than a serious injury. Bennett is expected to be fine after some rest. Monitor the situation into main camp. If the injury drags on it could hamper what chances he has of making the big club. Brad Wilson

September 2014 - Sam looked comfortable centering the first line last night against rival Edmonton. He was throwing the body and had a nifty wrap-around goal to boot. It is still a long shot for him to make the team but he sure is fun to watch. The next real test for him will come when regular training camp opens and every day NHL players are lining up opposite him. Brad Wilson

September 2014 - Bennett is in the unfortunate postion of being 18-years-old. The reason is because the Flames are extremely deep at center and it would be easy to send him back to junior and what would no doubt be a 100+ point campaign. I wouldn't put it past him playing into the regular season, at least until his nine games are up. But he will not be in the bottom six so a trade has to be made or he will see another year of junior. Matt Stajan you are on the clock. Brad Wilson

July 2014 - Bennett has signed a three year entry level contract with the Calgary Flames. He is the highest draft pick ever selected by Calgary after going fourth overall at the NHL Entry Draft in June. Bennett had 91 points including 36 goals last season for Kingston. He was named the CHL Prospect of the Year. Brad Wilson

June 2014 – The Calgary Flames selected Sam Bennett 4th overall in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. Brendan Ross

May 2014 - After posting 91 points in his draft season, Sam Bennett was named Jack's Links CHL Top Prospect of the Year topping nominees Nikolaj Ehlers and Sam Reinhart. Brendan Ross

May 2014 – Center Sam Bennett was named to the OHL's 3rd All-Star Team joining Max Domi, Nick Baptiste, Matt Finn, Darnell Nurse and Oscar Dansk. Brendan Ross

March 2014 - Frontenac's forward, Sam Bennett, was named OHL Player of the Week (ending March 2nd, 2014) after scoring four times and picking up six points in three weekly games. His week was highlighted by a four-point performance versus the Belleville Bulls on February 28th in a game where he scored his second hat trick of the season. Brendan Ross

January 2014 - Despite missing the 2014 CHL/NHL Top Prospects game, Sam Bennett of the Kingston Frontenacs was ranked 3rd onTSN's Bob McKenzie's 2014 NHL Draft Mid-Term Rankings. Brendan Ross

January 2014 - Sidelined with an injury, Samuel Bennett will not have the chance to showcase his skills at the CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game on January 15th as the team has replaced the high scoring OHLer. Prior to his injury, Bennett was enjoying a 24-game point streak that witnessed him rack up 16 goals and 44 points in that span. Bennett remains a potential Top 5 selection for the upcoming draft. Brendan Ross

November 2013 – Sam Bennett of the Kingston Frontenacs was named to the OHL roster for the 2013 SUBWAY Super Series. Bennett’s 10 goals leads the Frontenacs through 16 games and his 22 points places him second in team scoring.  Brendan Ross

August 2013 – Bennett has added Ivan Hlinka gold medal to his trophy case to start his 2014 NHL draft year after helping Team Canada with three goals and four points in five games. The former 9th overall selection of the Kingston Frontenacs, speed and elite skating ability defines Sam Bennett’s game. He’s a player who can create offense on the rush with his elusive skating ability and slick puck skills making him difficult to contain. Adding strength will be important for Bennett as he eyes the draft next June but his offensive prowess and established resume makes him a top prospect for the 2014 draft. Bennett tallied 18 goals and 40 points for the Frontenacs in his rookie season.  Brendan Ross

Fantasy Outlook: B+

The speedy Bennett has top-six upside and will get a good look in camp. It remains to be seen if he is ready to make the jump at such a young age.
